Peter Gallagher is MD and Principal Consultant at Inquit, where he provides analysis
and advice on international trade, public policy and business communications.
Clients include Australian food companies, industry organizations, government
agencies and international institutions.
Inquit Communications - which Peter founded in 1996 - provides publications
and computer-based training materials for the World Trade Organization that are
among the most widespread WTO publications:
- A Guide to Dispute Settlement (now available from WTO and from Kluwer Law
International) Trading into the Future - developed in conjunction with WTO
- WTO and Developing Countries - an Inquit WTO Guide (now also published by
Kluwer)

Inquit provides resources and training for the UN International Trade Centre,
including the on-line Business Guide to the World Trading System and support for
the ITC's World Tr@de Net business community through the TradeSuccess.org forum
web-site.
Inquit has provided trade policy training courses for the Australian development
assistance agency, Ausaid, in Vietnam and the South Pacific and has provided technical
assistance to South Pacific countries through the Commonwealth Secretariat.
Among recent Australia-based projects: A Market Access Guide for the Supermarket
to Asia Council; a Food Processing Research Strategy report for the Victorian
Department of Agriculture, Resources and Environment; Australia, the USA and Free
Trade, a report for the Australian Centre for American Studies; a major report
on the Farm-gate Economic Impact of Milk Price Deregulation for the United Dairy
Farmers of Victoria (March 1998).
Peter was formerly CEO of the Australian Dairy Industry Council, where he led
efforts to restructure the export dairy industry to take advantage of new international
trade opportunities.
In 1996 he was appointed to the faculty of the Business School of the University
of Melbourne - where he helped establish a program on international trade for
MBA students.
During a twenty-year career in the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs
and Trade, Peter held senior diplomatic appointments in Washington, Geneva and
Brussels (Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission). From 1986 to 1992 he led a team
of officials in groundbreaking negotiation of multilateral trade agreements on
services, intellectual property and market access in the World Trade Organization.
From 1996 to 2000, Inquit also developed and implemented business-to-business
e-commerce strategies, software and e-business sites for national financial and
food industry clients. The e-business activities were sold in September 2000.
